Still Counting!
The Walk for Peace continues to be very successful. The updates will now be on this new site.
Today, Bradford Peace Festival sent in their miles for their walking, at 11,135, and other miles have come in the last day bringing the current total to 21,349. There are several schools in Leeds that have yet to be counted, as well as more from Bahrain. The counting is going to continue with the next big event at the Together for Peace Festivals in Leeds and Bradford planned for 2007.
Keep on sending in miles for walking and now miles for cycling and minutes/hours for activities that don't have distances associated with them. See below for more information.
Thank you to everyone for continuing efforts in this excellent way to show that we can create peace individually and it adds up as we count all those who are now moving for peace.

Welcome to Moving for Peace
Introduction to Moving for PeaceThis site is a continuation and change from the Walking for Peace site. The Walk for Peace was inspired in 2004 and began on the 10th of July 2005 (see www.walkingforpeace.blogspot.com). It was originally a regional effort in and around Leeds England, but information about it has been passed around the world and now people are involved from as far away as Bahrain, Vermont, California, Canada and Australia as well as around the United Kingdom. The more people hear about it, the more they want to get involved. One question often asked has been 'can I right my bike for peace?' and now the answer is YES. To participate, you may do almost any sort of MOVING for peace you would like that does not involve power, with the exception of powered wheel chairs and similar powered scooters for disabled or elderly folks. There will be separate totals accumulated -- the walking for peace total will keep on for people who are walking. The people who walk will continue to receive certificates for the Walk for Peace even though the certificate says it is July-November 2005. There is no point in wasting those that have been printed! Those who wish to cycle for peace (or use motorized wheelchair/scooter for disabled or elderly) will have their own accumulating total. A third category of time is also starting. So those who wish to 'dance for peace' or indeed 'knit for peace' or 'exercise for peace' will do it for a specified period of time and that total will be in time rather than miles. A certificate will also be devised for your activites. Please continue to send in your contributions to e.halpin@leedsmet.ac.uk or to Dr Edward Halpin, Praxis Centre, Leeds Metropolitan University, Priestley Hall, Headingley Campus, Leeds LS6 3QS, UK (http://praxis.leedsmet.ac.uk/praxis) -- send the date of your activity, the detail of what you did, the distance covered (or time spent) and your information will be tallied with all the other information received. Running totals will be displayed on this Moving for Peace website. If you wish to have your photo shown doing your peace activity, send that along as well. Sending a photo will constitute permission to publish it on the site and use it in any other publicity.
